Motherhood Hasn't Swallowed Me Whole -- Yet.

Unintentionally, I took a few months off from blogging. Life has been full of moving, getting settled, the holidays and ya know -- raising babies! We successfully made it to Washington, and I dare say, are settled in our house. There is still work to be done, but we've only been here a couple of months and I think we have made great progress! I will try to do some room reveals in the coming weeks. Preston turned 2 in November, we had a lovely Thanksgiving with friends, and celebrated Christmas in our own home for the first time.

Since we have been MIA for a while…here is a massive photo dump of the cuteness my days entail:

Welcome to our new home!!

Addie (front) and Laney (back) at 2 months

This boy LOVES his sisters. Especially Laney. For whatever reason I think they have a special bond.
They even look alike.
He always hugs her and calls her his "Laney Girl". It kills me.
This is what it looks like to grocery shop with the girls. I wore Laney and strategically placed groceries around a sleeping Addie.
Such a happy baby! Addie smiles all the time.

Lest you think that a certain little boy has been neglected…
Possibly one of my favorite pictures of all time. He gets it honestly!
My sweetness.

He even suckered me into a $7 train ride at the mall while we were Christmas shopping

In other news…we recently transitioned Preston to a toddler bed. I was totally unprepared when I came home from running some errands and found that Ed has taken the rail off. Preston was so proud though. He couldn't contain his excitement! Someone else has found it to be an optimal spot as well...

Preston, of course, thinks its hysterical and always says "Zodey…so silly". Her name is actually Zoey…but he thinks there should be a "D", so whatever.

Overall, I think we are settling into being a family of 5 rather well. We have definitely had some trying moments, but I think that comes with any transition! The girls are growing so fast! Both of them are close to rolling over and I suspect that Laney is cutting a couple of teeth! Addie is definitely the easy going one and Laney is so sassy. I have known it since she was in utero…she is going to be my hand full!

Not such a little family any more!

I realize that I havent blogged in forever. I've actually meant to, but, ya know... taking care of 2 babies and a toddler tends to take a lot of time and energy.

Oh, and moving. There is that.

Tomorrow we set off on our cross country road trip. Ed is already en route to Washington and will make it there tomorrow or Friday. My mom and I head out tomorrow with the girls and my in-laws will be flying out with Preston next weekend. I am looking forward to the new adventure...though a little apprehensive about the trip itself!

Because there is so much going on and we head out bright and early I will leave you with some pictures of our last month as a family of 5!

Sleeping Together

He loves them more than anything.

Watching over everyone!

My handsome boy! He seems so big now!

Happening right now...she sleeps while I blog. Also, I should note, she is the reason I am still awake.

Etsy Swap 2013 - Reveal!

Let me tell you about something fun that I recently participated in! You might remember my bloggy friend Amy (at Taking Steps Home) from the Cara Box that I did in April. She and her friend Megan are self-proclaimed Etsy addicts and came up with a fun idea to do an Etsy swap. Me, being stir crazy waiting for my girls to be born, thought it would be a lot of fun to participate!

Essentially, the idea of Etsy swap was pretty simple -- bloggers signed up and get paired with a fellow Etsy lover. You stalk creep research their likes/dislikes from their social media links that were provided and find something that reflects their style on Etsy. Then you buy it and ship it to them.

I was paired up with Heather at Becoming Beloved! She described her style as Simple, Natural, Outdoors-y, Colorful, and Ecclectic. This was super fun because Heather didn't know that she was my match. I got to stalk her blog and her pinterest boards and find her something she would love! It was like being a secret santa. Except not. If you want to see what I sent her, I urge you to go over and check out her blog. You won't be disappointed!

I was lucky enough to have been matched up to receive a package from our lovely host, Amy! Amy sent me the sweetest package:

The print reads, "I can't imagine life without a table between us" from the book Bread & Wine written by Shauna Niequist. This has been on my to-read list since it came out and the print is totally my style! I can't wait to hang it in the new house! Amy got this print from a website that I wasnt familiar with - Lindsay Letters. If you are into typography, especially, you have to check out their store! They have tons of great prints as well as mugs, stamps, and canvas prints. I. Want. It. All.

Also included in the box were two packages of notecards, a "C" stamp, and a beautiful necklace from  IMSMI. I don't know if you can see it clearly (my picture taking skills were lacking) but it has three hearts that are all connected on a gold chain. Amy said she thought it would be perfect since I had Preston and the two girls on the way. She was right! It also just so happened that I received her package on the day the girls were born. Talk about good timing! I love how delicate the necklace is and I feel like I can wear it with anything, which I love!

Especially with things getting hectic here (now and in the upcoming couple of months), I am glad that I was able to participate in this Etsy swap! It is always fun getting to know other bloggers! Keep an eye out for the next Etsy swap!!

Introductions are in order!

Friends, Family, and Bloggy Friends,

Allow me to introduce you to the newest members of the May family!

Addison Margaret May and Delaney Gail May made their way into the world on September 17, 2013 at 9:01 and 9:02 am.

A birth story will come in the upcoming days, but for now a few cute pictures and a promise that we are doing fabulously (and ready to go home!)

Holding hands right after delivery

Big brother was very interested in them! The minute he climbed into my lap he was eager to show me that he knew where the babies nose and eyes were.

A very proud daddy!

Thank you to everyone who has kept us in your thoughts and prayers! We are so glad our girls are here!

H54F v. 8!

I am back for another fun link-up of High Five for Friday, after an unintentional hiatus! Unfortunately, not for the reason you might think. Still no babies. Things have been quite busy here, though, and I am back and ready to fill y'all in on what has been going on in our neck of the woods!

1.)) If you follow me on Instagram (@chelseymay72) you have seen this, but it remains a favorite and I swear I breathe a sigh of relief every time I see it. It does, however, require a little back story. In the summer of 2010 Ed decided that he wanted to buy a boat. He bought said boat and we had a fabulous summer playing on it. We made lots of great memories, we took the boat to Block Island, RI where he proposed, and many nights after work we would go out on the boat just to grill out for dinner and relax.  The boat, however, was a MONEY PIT. It started having tons of trouble and I swear we might as well have been through money into the wind. Long story short, this past Friday WE GOT RID OF THE BOAT!!!! We have been trying to sell it with no luck and finally ended up donating it. Then we toasted good riddance to the Shelly Jake. Our friend Mike is also pictured here, as he is the one it took care of all of the issues while we were in Tennessee. It's true what they say -- the best days in a boat owners life are the day they get their boat and the day they get rid of it!!

2.)) I can't get over the sweetness of this picture. For the first time ever, Preston fell asleep completely on his own where he was laying. We were trying to pack some stuff for an evening away at some friends house and he was laying on the bed watching Mickey Mouse. Kid passed out! He slept like that for a good half hour. I can't believe how big he is getting!

3.)) We have a new house! This is, obviously, a crappy picture, but this is the only good one I have of the outside and it just doesnt fit. Regardless, we are in the midst of doing all the paperwork and, if all goes well, will close in the middle of October. Yay!

4.)) We had a false alarm last week and thought that the girls might be joining us early. I was, admittedly, freaking out, and texting my best friend. Now when I freak out I just remind myself of her wise words :-)

5.)) My parents have been in town this week to help with Preston and to get things ready for the girls arrival. My mom is going to be here indefinitely, while my dad will be traveling back and forth from our house and theirs. Along with my parents are their 2 dogs. Preston's favorite part of the day now is helping my dad feed the dogs. He is allowed to scoop the food into their dog bowls, and if that fails, he throws handfuls in there.

Hope everyone is having a great day and a fun fall-esque weekend! Make sure you head over to Lauren Elizabeth to check our her H54F!

Raising a Reader!

I have always loved to read! Even as a child I remember having a love for books (and subsequently, writing my name in permanent marker inside all of my books). As a parent myself, I have tried hard to instill a love of reading in Preston. I remember buying him "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" when he was probably 2 weeks old, because really, what newborn doesnt need to hear about the Who's down in Whoville?!?

Now at the age of (almost) 2, he has his own favorites and loves to keep books in his crib to look at while he falls asleep. Most of them include animals, marine life, or pirates. He is a boy after all. So, when I was given the opportunity to review a children's book, I was absolutely thrilled!

Allow me to introduce you to Hugo:

HUGO is a little starfish with a BIG HEART. He has a passion is to make others happy but he still has many things to learn. Fortunately he has more than just a big heart, he also has a CURIOUS MIND.

Through his adventures, Hugo learns many valuable lessons of character, life skills, and ecological alertness — all against the colorful backdrop of a magical underwater world and mystical islands.

Believing that happiness can be learned, feelings can be understood, and that building character based on a positive attitude leads to a happy, content, successful and confident human being, Suzy Liebermann has written this charming series of children’s books to help educate children about their feelings, their attitudes, their choices, and the consequences that follow.

I downloaded Hugo the Happy Starfish - One Step at a Time onto my Kindle Fire and fell absolutely in love! This story centers around Hugo after he finds an empty candy wrapper with a picture of a huge chocolate mountain. Hugo discovers that his chocolate mountain is in fact a real mountain, which is called the Matterhorn and is located in Switzerland. He decides to set off on a journey to find this mountain – a huge challenge for a little starfish! Hugo learns to take one step at a time and to enjoy the journey as much as the destination. Join Hugo as he finds the secret of perseverance when the road gets difficult.

While the theme of the book is admittedly a little mature for Preston, I loved that it set forth a positive message of not only perseverance, but it was also educational and sets a tone of adventure. Preston loved the bright colors of the illustrations and we had fun pointing out the different ocean creatures and sites that Hugo saw during his trip to Switzerland. Another thing that I loved (and will utilize when P gets a little older) are the free worksheets, games, and coloring pages that are available for download through the Hugo website (link).

In addition to this book, other Hugo books revolve around important themes such as self-esteem, bullying, and sharing, which I plan to get for Preston!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

August Cara Box Reveal!

I am back again this month for my monthly Cara Box reveal! Things are changing a bit with the Cara Box, so this will be my last one for a while. Instead of making it a monthly thing, Kaitlyn (who is expecting her first baby) has opted to make it quarterly...giving participants a little more time to get to know each other and get the boxes together. The new format starts next month, but seeing as how I will  have my hands full for those few months, I will likely not participate until the match-up in December!

Anyway, I digress. Onto this month's CaraBox!

This months theme was "Seasons of Life", which centered around the way we were matched up (single or married, childless or a parent..). Given that theme, I was paired with two fabulous mommas that I have had the pleasure to get to know!

First, I was paired with Whitney from Mama and Mister. She and her husband live in Utah and have a cute little boy named Ryder, as well as a lab named Cash. Whitney was so fun to get to know and we found that we have a TON in common! Stop by and say hi and see what I sent her!

The second momma I had the pleasure of getting to know was Jessica from Bluebird Sisters. She and her adorable family live in Texas and she, too, has been an absolute blast to get to know! We also have a lot in common and it was nice talking to a mom with a child a little older than Preston (her "Bird" is almost 4...and so cute!). She sent me the sweetest box:

As you can see, it included a pretty Family themed picture frame, Cheetos (a huge pregnancy craving -- yum! Preston and I may or may not have already eaten the whole bag), a pink mustache scarf, number magnets for P, matching bows for the girls, and an insulated tumbler. What's funny is that I never even told Jessica about my obsession with tumblers. I literally have, like, 5 and drink out of them every.single.day. This box was definitely "me" and I appreciate all of the thoughtfulness that Jessica put into it!

You can see that someone else was very interested in the box as well and couldnt wait to get his hands on his number magnets!

If you are interested in joining the new and improved Cara Box head on over to Wifessionals for more information on how to join next month!!

High Five for Friday - v. 7

Happy Friday!!

1)) A little family time in the pool!

2)) I took Preston to Target for a "quick" trip. He did such a good job that he got popcorn as a reward....and on the way home he proceeded to dump it all over his carseat. Don't let the face fool you -- he thought it was hysterical to eat it off of his lap.

3)) Her royal highness lounging in the pool. She lives a rough life.

4)) Seriously, this kid looks like he is 12! When did he get so big?

5)) Ed picked Preston up from daycare for me one day this week because I was really busy (read: my pedicure was taking longer than anticipated). He sent me this picture with the caption "You Suck". I should also note that P is cutting his 2 year molars, so really, this is not an anomaly.

Go say hi to Lauren Elizabeth to join us next week for H54F!

H54F - v. 6

I'm a little late getting my High Five for Friday up! This week has been busy with nesting projects and general craziness. So, without further ado --

1)) P is very interested in hats lately. Don't let that full you, though. He wont actually wear one that fits his head...he's only interested in DADDY's hats.

2)) Another recap from our trip to WV -- this was us on the plane before take off. Both pretty happy for 6 am!

3)) I got my first sponsored product review in the mail this week! Stay tuned in the upcoming days for a review and giveaway!!

4)) My friend, Amanda, threw me a "sprinkle" last weekend, which was so fun! It was nice to celebrate with so many wonderful friends. These are 3 of my closest friends -- 2 of which were in my wedding (and the third being married to the best man in our wedding). Love being so close to friends!

5)) Incase you missed it -- THE DRESSERS ARE DONE!! Hallelujah! If you want to know more about what we did - you can check it out here!

Have a great weekend!

Annd head over to Lauren Elizabeth to join in on the fun!

Dresser Reveal (Finally!)

I wrote a month or so ago about some DIY projects that I wanted to complete before the girls were born (see To-Do Lists). I am happy to say that some of them have been completed, like the office organization and the chair/table recovering. Preston's baby book has made progress, but still isn't done. Hey, I still have a month, right?!?

Anyway, that very weekend my mom and I went yard-saling and found a dresser set that I wanted to re-do for the girls nursery. Preston's dresser used to be my dads and after some stripping (of the dresser...not me) and staining, Ed made it look brand new. So, I decided to save us a huge chunk of money and re-do dressers for the girls. How hard could it be, right?

Here are the before pictures:

This is the front of the tall dresser (chest of drawers? armoire? whatever.)

and this is the other shorter dresser. Again, don't ask me what they are called. I call them both dressers. Tall and short to be more specific. I didn't take a picture of this one fast enough before we started removing the hardware, but you get the idea.

And this is the finished product:

My original plan did not include making them shabby looking, but after what felt like 700 coats of primer and paint we found that the drawers would no longer fit in the dresser.  Ed had to do a ton of sanding and re-working to make them fit and we discovered that we actually liked it better this way AND it goes with the vintage-y look of their nursery.

In addition to the paint, I also painted the drawers pink, added glass knobs, and lined them with a fun floral wrapping paper. It was a lot more work than I anticipated, for a number of reasons. After we started sanding the finish off we found that red dye was leaking through and near impossible to cover up (hence the 700 coats of primer and paint), then because the dressers were so old the pulls were oddly spaced so we had to fill them in and drill new holes. Add to that the humidity, and oh, a hugely pregnant woman working on them and yeah...it took a couple of months. All in all, though, I am really happy with how they turned out. I honestly couldn't have done it without help from my mom and Ed, though, so a huge thank you to them!

Now to fill them with lots of girly clothes :-)

High Five for Friday: Recap Addition (v. 5)

I have been missing from the H54F posts for a couple of weeks so have some cute pictures from those couple of weeks!

1)) This is an anomaly! Zoey is infamous for running at the mere sight of Preston...most days she lays behind the couch where he tends to not bother her. On this day she was snuggling with me on the couch and he decided to join us...she even let him touch her. Amazing.

2)) Our good friends from Memphis, Mike and Brenna, spent a couple of months in Hawaii for Navy business and sent Preston a cute package with a lei and some Hawaiian animal crackers. He loves the lei so much that we had to put it on the shelf in his room!

3)) I have been busy trying to get things that we need for the girls, especially things that we don't think of because we already own ONE. I was at Once Upon a Child a couple of weeks ago and picked up a second Boppy pillow. Someone took it as her own almost immediately. Even today the cover is still off and Preston and Zoey take turns laying on it. Perhaps I need a third Boppy?!?

4)) Don't let this photo fool you...we have had no birthdays in our house recently. This has been my latest ploy to save sanity at the grocery store. This day in particular Preston was melting down but I HAD to go to the store. You will notice he isn't even wearing pants. Oh, we were so that family. Anyway, I got him a balloon to make our trip a little less disastrous. Anything with "Melmo" on it is awesome in this house! Also, I just threw this balloon away yesterday. It lasted three weeks. I'd say that's a good $3 spent.

5)) Oy. This photo still makes me crazy. I couldnt find Zoey for over an hour (while Preston was napping) and walked all over our yard, which is like 2 acres, yelling for her. I called my mom sobbing absolutely certain that something horrible had happened to her and/or that someone had taken her. On my last loop around the house I found her. In the flower bed outside our front door. I'm not even kidding.

** Don't let these photos fool you....we do have a second dog. A 7 year old chocolate lab named Bella. It's not that I dont love Bella (and choose not to include her). Bella is just smart enough to avoid most of the shenanigans.

If you want to participate in High Five for Friday head on over to see Lauren at Lauren Elizabeth and link up!

July Cara-Box Reveal!

Though, I am a little late, I am excited to talk about this months Cara Box! The theme for July was "Sail Away" -- so, it was a nautical theme. And if you know me at all, you know I love all things nautical!

I had the pleasure of being paired up with Brittany to send a box to. We found out, almost instantly, that we had a lot in common and it was so fun getting to know her! She and her husband, Adam, live in Alabama and she is just the sweetest! She's a social worker (which I loved hearing about) and does great work with adolescent boys and girls. If you want to see the box that I sent Brittany (or just to say hi!) hop on over to Adam and Brittany (Life in Dixie).

This month I received my box from Holly at Sunshine State of Mind. Holly is a momma, wife, and majorly talented photographer. She was so fun to get to know and sent me the sweetest box!

Not only did she send ME some seriously cute goodies, but she remembered all of my kiddos as well (even those that we are still waiting to meet!). Pictured you can see a pirate sword and shield for Preston, matching seahorse onesies for the girls, an adorable anchor headband, nautical rhinestone stickers, and an adorable scarf!

If you want to join in the fun of Cara Box -- head on over to Wifessionals and get in on the fun!!

H54F v. 4

I am back again this week for another edition of High Five for Friday!!

1)) Preston got a new light up laptop toy. Not only was he amused...so was Zoey. It occupied them both for approximately 5 minutes.

2)) While I didnt take this picture this week  it was too cute not to share! This was Preston pre-surgery last week. Love that YNH Children's Hospital had an array of toys in the exam rooms. This boy was in dump trunk heaven!

3)) Yes, that says 102 degrees. I am dying. DYING I tell you! 7 months pregnant and 102 degrees dont mix...especially when only our bedrooms are air conditioned!

4)) One of my dear friends sent me this in a next this week...followed by an ultrasound picture and the message "no, I really do!". So excited for her!!!

5)) My fingers have officially become too swollen for my wedding ring. I have since added a different ring in its place (my mom's anniversary band), but its not the same!

I am linking up again this week with Lauren over at Lauren Elizabeth!

Hope you have a great Friday and relaxing weekend!!

Monday Musings v. 3

I have been MIA the past couple of weeks due to some craziness, but am happy to be back again for another version of Monday Musings!

* We have finally received official verbal orders for our next duty station. Bremerton, Washington here we come! We have been told for the last couple of months that this is where we are going to be going but without official orders it was meaningless. Hell, with official orders its still relatively meaningless. The submarine force is notorious for changing things (often for good reason) and it can be tough to change plans on a whim. Neither of us have ever been to Washington so I'd love to hear from anyone who knows anything about the area!

* Preston had his surgery last Wednesday, which explains why things have been absolutely crazy around here and I have not posted in a while. Everything went well, but we have been running around like crazy people since. He is generally happy during the day but sleeping is rough and diaper changing has been advanced to a whole new level of torture.

* Stella & Dot has released the fall preview for stylists and there are some seriously cute pieces getting ready to come out! It's hard to think about a fall wardrobe when its 100 degrees out, though. I have been slow with S&D lately because of moving and being gigantically pregnant but I am hoping to get a couple of shows in over the next couple of months. If you are interested in shopping for some great pieces you can go here, or if you want to host your own show and get them for free just let me know! I'd love to set up a show for you!

* I am participating in a children's book exchange with some fellow bloggers. It's kind of a like an old school chain letter in that you send a book to child #1, move #2 up and add your child to #2 then pass it along to 6 other moms or moms to be. If you'd love to participate I have a couple of slots open. It's nice because you can literally just send one book via amazon and then get books from others! Everyone loves getting stuff in the mail!

Wow, this post is full of reader participation! Hope everyone has a fabulous week!

Monday Musings v.2

Welcome to Monday Musings where I discuss all of the random things that are going on around here!

* I tried out a delicious new desert today (you read that correctly...today. In my opinion, pregnant women need not wait until after dinner to have desert, though I will likely have desert again). I digress. The desert I made was a VERY easy cobbler. My blog friend Andi posted the recipe on her blog and I have been dying to try it. Run on over there to see how to make a cobbler with 3 ingredients and very minimal work. I made mine with apples. It was delish!

* We have had to implement time out around here the last couple of days. P is actually really easy to get along with, but he has decided to start testing boundaries...namely playing in the dogs water bowls and throwing his toys at them. He seems to understand that he is in trouble but it hasn't changed his behavior. Yet.

* P's urology appointment went well last week and we were able to schedule surgery for next Wednesday. It's crazy we were able to do it so soon....I'm quite nervous, especially since Ed isnt able to get out of work to go with me.

* I went to the city (NYC) with some friends this weekend to see a Broadway show, which was a lot of fun! We are all moms to toddlers and crazy pregnant, which made it even more entertaining. We went and say The Nance, which we all had mixed reviews on. The first act was pretty funny but the end left much to be desired. The one thing that made it worth it is that we were able to see it with Nathan Lane starring as Chauncey. He is amazingly talented, and funny, and I really don't know that the show would have been half as entertaining with someone else in that role.

* We are going to Buffalo this weekend to see Ed's family since he has a long weekend off. It's crazy to think that this is likely the last time we will be able to go before the girls are born.

Hope everyone has a fantastic week!

June Cara Box Reveal

It's that time of the month again where I get to tell you all about the lovely ladies that I met through the Cara Box Exchange!

This months the box was carnival/fair themed, which proved to be quite challenging -- but fun! I was paired up with the lovely Chelsee at Southern Beauty Guide and Andi from A Look At Life From a Different Angle.

First, meet Chelsee:

Not only do we share the same name (different spelling) but we also had a lot in common. Chelsee is a self proclaimed girlie girl who is into fashion and makeup. She is a web designer, free lance makeup artist, and small business co-owner! I had such a good time getting to know Chelsee this month, she is such a sweetheart! If you want to see what I got her (and even if you dont) you definitely need to check out her blog (she does awesome make-up tutorials...and I will be the first to admit that I need all the help I can get!).

Next is Andi:

I was so glad to get to know Andi, and again, was paired with someone with whom I had a lot in common! Andi is a teacher by day but also loves running, diy projects, baking, and wine. Sound like anyone else? You know, except for the running? Andi was so fun to email with -- she asked a lot of great questions that got me reminiscing about fairs and carnivals from my own childhood. She was also so sweet checking on how I was feeling and getting to know more about my life and family!

Now onto the wonderful box I got from Andi :-) I cant even tell you how excited I was when I saw this on the front porch! Confession: It wasnt on my porch like this. Andi is smart enough to seal the box...I just couldnt wait to grab the camera before I opened it.

And  the goodies that were inside!

Look at this stuff! I told Andi about how carnival food was (and honestly still is) my favorite part. Specifially, I told her about how much I loved funnel cakes and the fresh donuts that we use to get. Well, she obviously couldnt mail me a funnel cake but found these amazing donuts which literally look and smell like the ones I remember. Another funny story (which my mother will appreciate it) was regarding the games I played as a kid and all the random fish I won. One year, though, I actually won a bunny and my mom wouldnt let me keep him. As a parent I totally dont blame her because, really, who needs a bunny as a pet, but at the time it was quite a disappointment. Andi got me a fish...and a bunny :-) Also in there are some squirt guns (which Preston and I are so playing with when he wakes up), some delicious Banana Fosters flavored coffee, candy, and a sweet note.

Annnd if you didnt notice the adorableness in the front row -- Andi made the girls matching onesies with little pearls and flowers on them. People, she MADE them! They are to die for and I still can't get over them. She also makes tutus and I'm already figuring out what colors I want her to make for my two little ladies.

I still cant get over the thoughtfulness of this box! Especially remembering all 3 of my little ones!

If you are interested in learning more about Cara Box and how to get involved head on over and see Kaitlyn at Wifessionals. It has been such a fun way to make new friends and get to know other blogs and bloggers! The ladies I have met have all been fabulous and I look forward to next months!
